Body Awareness and  Control for Riders

Horses are Masters of Body Language.
It's Time to Master Your Body.

"Riding alone is not enough to create the fitness you need to ride effectively."

Does This Sound Like Your Horse?

You've worked with trainers, and on your own, for hours and hours
and yet your horse still tries the same old stuff.

  • My horse rushes
  • We can't travel a straight line
  • My horse won't turn
  • My horse pulls on me
  • My horse is too slow, doggy.
  • My horse stops crooked
  • My horse falls in on a circle
  • My horse drifts out through his shoulder
  • My Horse                               !

If Your horse does anything other than travel perfectly, read on to see how you can help.

I Have Good News For You,
It May Not Be Your Horse's Fault.

I'd like you to think about How you are sitting right now

Are You More Column  A   OR   Column  B?

COLUMN  A
  • Are you sitting up nice and straight?
  • Is your screen at a height that allows you to look straight forward and not down?
  • Is your core engaged? Your pelvis tucked under?
  • Are your legs placed evenly under you with your heels on the floor?
  • Are you taking nice full rhythmic breaths?
COLUMN  B
  • Is your back arched or more likely rounded as you slump in a chair? If you sat up in that position you would be looking down. This is the #1 Rider Problem.
  • Are your legs stretched out, calves soft and toes pointing down and out? This is the #2 Rider Problem
  • Are you leaning to one side, collapsing your rib cage, putting more weight on one seat bone?  This happens a lot and is often not corrected by coaches so the #3 Rider Problem identified by coaches is the student is Not Breathing.

"Throughout our day we spend most of our time in postures that
do not benefit our riding, and are not aware of it."

So now you are aware, are you sitting up straight?
Will you remember to next time?    It is hard to break old habits.

Most of the problems we have with horses can be traced back to the horse being uneven in his body.
The question is, how can we create straightness in our horse if we are crooked in our own body?

"Riders forget to also look at themselves, and ask themselves
whether they don't need to change too"

Two Tips to Help You Become Straighter

How do You sit on a sofa or a comfy chair?  Which way do you lean?

Work on sitting up straight. Sitting in the middle of the sofa with feet flat on the floor will help to create the correct habit.

For extreme cases sit on the opposite end of the sofa and stretch your shorter side.

Sitting on an exercise ball is even better. If you get tired, you're leaning.

Challenge yourself by balancing a sandbag on your head.

Now lift both feet.
No problem for my Equestrian Aquatics student.

If your seat falls asleep when you're traveling, you are collapsing your ribs on the opposite side and putting more weight on one seat bone.

When you notice this shift your weight on to the non-sleeping sit bone and stretch tall and even through your ribs.

Your horse is more likely to drift towards the weighted seat-bone so if this is happening, imagine a thumbtack in your shoe and in your back pocket on the heavier (drifting) side.  This will cause you to slightly lift, putting more weight on the other side.

Is This Program For Me?

This program  May Not Be  for you if...
  • You already ride as well as you'd like to and your horse reflects that by moving evenly too.
  • You already do a full body workout 3 or more days of the week and are improving in your riding.
  • Your coach does not need to correct you on issues related to Balance, Suppleness, Core Stability.
  • There is absolutely no way you can get to a pool or other water at least once a week and preferably twice.
This program Is For You if...
  • You wonder what you can do between lessons or when your horse is off to improve your riding.
  • You don't think you have time to do a workout.

  • You have issues with impact caused by other forms of exercise.
  • You'd like to be more aware of your imbalances and how to correct them so you ride better.

For the aspiring rider who does not own a horse.

Cross-training between lessons to improve your communication.

When you can't ride due to weather or horse injury.

"A horse is a creature of perfect poise, grace and beauty...
All good riders know that it is only when they can come up to their horse's level of natural perfection that harmony between horse and rider can be achieved."

This course is designed to turn you, the rider, into the perfect rider
your horse has always dreamed of!

Two More Free Tips

When you shovel or sweep or vacuum, which side of your body do you favor?

Make sure you spend at least as much time using the other side of your body until you forget which is your easier side.

This is also an opportunity to practice standing up straight while bending your knees and opening your hip flexors.

Do You lean forward when you walk?

Our habits on the ground become our habits in the saddle. Check yourself when you pass a window.

If you tend to lean forward practice feeling like you're leaning back while tucking your pelvis and engaging your core to protect your lower back.

I used to lean forward when I ride and when I walk.  When I'm tired or distracted I have to make a conscious effort at being straight. I don't do this when I'm floating or I'll tip over so it's helping develop the core muscles and change the habit.

So far the tips have been land based, so  Why is Working In the Water Better?

Key Benefits

  • Exercises that you do on land such as planking and sit-ups are difficult and damaging if done wrong. The aquatic equivalents we introduce are easier due to the water's buoyancy. They can become more difficult as you progress with less risk of injury.
  • Maintaining balance in the dynamic environment simulates how riding challenges your body.
  • You don't have to think about controlling your horse so you can concentrate on what you feel. You develop subtle control of your own body and that will aid your horse.
  • Water supplies resistance depending on depth to vary the difficulty of the exercises.
  • There is time to focus on correct breathing which is easy to do sitting still and harder to do when moving.  It can be almost impossible to learn while riding so practicing while in the water allows it to become a habit.

Bonus Benefits

  • Even when you' are not doing an exercise you will be using core muscles to stabilize yourself.
  • Easy to cool off  and a lot of fun. Especially with friends.
  • When you lose your balance you get wet,
    not hurt.

There is nothing as invigorating as riding your beloved horse along a beach, through the waves, on a fresh summer's morning.
Yet few riders realise that water also holds the key to re-aligning and re-invigorating their own physical posture and well-being, which will lead to a deepening relationship and connection with their horse.

Seeing and feeling the improvement makes it easy
to continue with the program,  and develop new habits.

  • Chances are despite your work, your horse does not travel straight, balanced and light. Hallmarks of suppleness and engagement of the hindquarters through engagement of the core.
  • You've been thinking about your own body and noticing it is also not straight and even and probably also lacks in suppleness and engagement of the core.
  • You've heard there are solutions that work. That will help you develop better balance, suppleness and core stability.

See what some of our clients have to say:

"The 21 minute workout means I can be in and out of the pool in an hour..."

"I work on horses bodies, but my own suffers. I like that I can fit in a workout between clients horses. My job uses specific muscles and doing the Equestrian Aquatics program allows me to be more well rounded physically. The 21 minute workout means I can be in and out of the pool in an hour so even on a busy day I can fit one in at lunch time."

"working through the exercises in the water, I can concentrate solely and safely on myself..."

"I have trouble just relaxing and following my horses big movement. It takes a lot of strength to just relax and follow. When I'm not strong enough, I hold my breath and brace myself instead of following the movement and then my horse braces and it gets harder to follow. I need the presence of mind and muscle tone to relax and control my horse. Equestrian Aquatics has done that for me. The breath practice has helped me become more present in my body. The body awareness, created by working through the exercises in the water, where I can concentrate solely and safely on myself has allowed me to develop the presence and muscle tone to ride my horse better."

    MERYLE HILBERRY and NAVARRE

"I have noticed an improvement in balance, both on, and off my horse..."

`My mum tried for years to get me to remember to stand up straight and Trish accomplished this in 21 days. Thanks to this amazing programme, I became much more aware of the habits and unevenness of my body. I got very wet the first few days."

I have noticed an improvement in balance, both on, and off my horse.  This has resulted in a lighter, happier, straighter moving horse, and a less clumsy human!

It has been enlightening and tremendous fun and has become a regular activity."

Still not sure?  Here's what participants are saying...

"The water immediately gives me feedback on my challenges that day, and really makes me aware of what I am feeling..."

I've signed up for exercise classes before but don't keep going. They are only offered at set times and if I don't feel like going or am busy, I miss them. Often they are working on things that don't benefit me as a rider. Often I end up sweaty and sore but don't notice any changes in my riding.

I love working with the Equestrian Aquatics program because there are things I can do at home if I don't feel like going out. When I do go out to the pool, it's at my convenience. The water immediately gives me feedback on my challenges that day and really makes me aware of what I am feeling. This is really important for riders that want to dance with their horse, as Trish would say.

The best part is that both my horse and myself can feel the difference in my body and I don't get sweaty exercising.

    ANNA HILBERRY

    and Navarre

"my horse now moves better because I'm more balanced on him..."

"I was chopping wood this spring and my son said, my goodness, you have core muscles now. That's the result of doing the Equestrian Aquatics program through the winter.

The benefit for me is, with the suppling and core stability, riding is not hurting my back anymore. That's partly because I have more tone and partly because my horse now moves better because I'm more balanced on him."

    TRISH HYATT
    Coach and Trainer
    and Boomer

"has helped me immensely with my balance, allowing me to feel more confident..."

"Even though I don't ride, this program has helped me immensely with my balance, allowing me to feel more confident. Most of my life I didn't think about my body. I just used it and it worked. But as you get older your body does not always do what you think it's going to do. Learning to be more aware of my body has been just as big a game changer in improving my stability as the physical benefits of the program."

    RAY NUTTALL
    Retired Heavy-duty Mechanic

"Breath practice... use it to calm myself when Zoë is crying. If it will calm me then it will definitely calm me when I ride"

"As a new mom I have a lot of new challenges physically, not to mention time wise.  I wanted a program I could learn at home and then work on in a low impact setting when I had a babysitter.  I appreciate the 21 minute format that let's me fit it in to my busy schedule.  I like that once you've completed the foundation program you have the basic tools to put together a workout focusing on my own weak areas and imbalances, although at the moment I'm pretty sure that's everywhere.  I also like the breath practice as I'm always forgetting to breathe properly when I concentrate and I can even use it to calm myself when Zoë is crying.  If it will calm me then it will definitely calm me when I ride."

    Improve Your Dressage Seat

    From Dressage Today

    By Isabelle von Neumann-Cosel

"To most riders, their seat position on the horse feels normal. It is the result of genetic facts, well-trained muscle memory and long-lasting habits. Every rider becomes numb to his or her problems and even his or her own obvious mistakes while sitting on the horse. Therefore the improvement of the rider’s seat is one of the most difficult goals to achieve: One has to mistrust the feel in his or her own body.  But it is also the most rewarding goal: Horses will react immediately to better balance, less negative tension and/or quicker coordination of the rider."

Working in the water you will know immediately
when you are out of balance.  You'll tip over.

You'll also know when you've found balance without tension because it becomes effortless.

You can then take this feeling back to your horse so
he can mirror and appreciate you.

    F.A.Q. Section

How can I be sure this program will help me?

You may be generally unfit or simply unfit for the task of riding or very fit but not progressing as well as you'd like in your riding.  This program is easy to modify to suit all levels of fitness. It's main purpose is to make you aware of and improve your balance, suppleness and core-stability. This will in turn, carry over in to your riding. It is covered by a 30 day Money Back Guarantee

What if I don't know how to swim?

There is no swimming in this program just floating with a pool noodle and feet on the ground exercises.

What if I don't like deep water?

You don't have to go any deeper than your chest and many exercises can be done waist deep.

What if I don't have any way to get to the pool?

Sign up for the special that allows you to bring a friend for a reduced rate.

Why is the program so expensive?

When you divide the cost of the program by the 21 days of instruction the most it will cost you is $9.50 which is way less than the $50 I would charge you in person but if you take advantage of today's special it  can be as low as $3.50 per day and you get lifetime access.  That's less than a Mocha Latte, and it's for your horse.

I'm not sure I have time?

You only have to get to the Pool 7 times but even if you  can't make it there are exercises to do at home to keep you on track.  The daily program is designed to take 21 minutes although you're welcome to spend longer on your favorite exercises or combine 3 days in 1 and work out twice a week.

What if I need more information during or after the 21 days?

We have a Facebook group to ask questions, discuss your progress and creative use of the water and find an accountability buddy. I am on there regularly to answer technical questions and cheer you on.

My family and friends think I'm nuts playing in the water!

That's okay, they're probably the same ones who say all you do is sit there while your horse does all the work.

Risk Free. I truly believe you will discover where your challenges are and begin to overcome them.
